Our church small group did give us a shower a week before we were supposed to take our son home, but during the waiting period I think the only one that bought anything was my Mom. I think people are afraid to buy things and just don't know what to think. It didn't stop me from buying things though. Once we adopted our daughter, and everone saw she was officially ours, we got lots of things. Be honest with yourself- if you think you will confide in your hubby. He maybe able to help those around you know your desires. I don't think its selfish. No one would think twice about putting something under the tree for a baby if you were pregnant. I would have been perfectly happy had someone just gotten me some baby socks, shoes, or onesie.
